HARD of HEARING GRADS HONORED
Three local high school seniors with hearing loss were given scholarships by the Hearing Loss Association of America-Rochester chapter, at the organization’s annual dinner meeting. They were honored with their parents as special guests at the event, which took place on Tuesday, June 9, 2009 at the Cobblestone Creek Country Club, in Victor.
This marks the 14th year the chapter has awarded grants to such students towards the costs of college education or vocational training. The scholarship fund was established by a donation from Mr. and Mrs. Stuart MacDonald, chapter member Sue Miller’s parents.
Each of the graduates received $1000, made possible by the chapter’s Walk4Hearing yearly fundraiser, and all are continuing their education at Rochester Institute of Technology.
The winners and their high schools are:
- Danica Metlay, Rochester School for the Deaf
- Davina Johnston, Honeoye Falls-Lima High School
- Hannah Worek, Brighton High School.
Hannah is going to major in criminal justice and hopes to be a lawyer. Davina is interested in psychology. Danica will be studying hospitality and is considering becoming a wedding planner.
The chapter is pleased to support such deserving young women as they pursue their goals, and wishes them much success in their educational and career pursuits!
